The Mint turf process
Powerbroom
We use our Powerbroom to bring up pet hair, leaves, rocks and debris. This helps with drainage and fluffs the turf up to prevent premature wear and tear.
Vacuum
We use our special turf vacuum to remove all the debris and pet hair brought to the surface.
Sanitize
We spray our sanitizing and deodorizing spray to kill off odor causing bacteria, and spread scent-absorbing granule infill throughout the turf.
Refresh
We top it off with our custom mint-scented spray to keep killing bacteria and keep your turf clean and smelling great for longer.

Why turf smells worse here than anywhere else.
Heat is the whole story. On a 110 degree afternoon an untreated turf surface can sit between 150 and 170 degrees, and the bacteria that produce the smell get more active above about 86. Odor that would take a couple of months to show up in a mild climate turns up here in three or four weeks.
Hosing it down doesn’t work. Uric acid isn’t water-soluble.
The part that catches people out is that hosing it down does not fix it. Uric acid is not water soluble. Rinsing dilutes what is fresh on the surface, then the acid recrystallises down in the infill and the smell comes straight back with the next hot afternoon.
So the problem is not on top of the turf, it is in the infill underneath. Our custom MiNT spray with real dwell time gets down deep and destroys odor-causing bacteria, rather than anything sprayed on and left.
Dust storms make it worse in one afternoon by driving fine grit down into the thatch, where it holds moisture and everything else in place. A reset after monsoon season is worth more here than it would be anywhere else in the country.

Will hosing my turf down get rid of the dog pee smell?
No, and this is the single most common misunderstanding about turf. Uric acid does not dissolve in water. Hosing dilutes whatever is fresh on the surface, but the acid recrystallises in the infill below and the smell returns as soon as it heats up again.
Why does my turf smell worse in summer?
Surface temperatures on artificial turf can reach 150 to 170 degrees on a 110 degree day, and the bacteria responsible for the odor become far more active above roughly 86 degrees. The same amount of dog urine produces noticeably more smell in July than it does in February.
Can I just use vinegar or bleach on artificial grass?
Please do not. Bleach mixed with the ammonia in urine produces chloramine gas, and it also strips the colour out of the fibres and degrades the backing, which can void a turf warranty. Vinegar breaks fibres down over time and leaves a residue that then grabs dust.
Can I pressure wash my own turf?
It will do damage. Pressure lifts the infill out of the pile, flattens the blades so they never stand back up properly, and can tear seams apart. Turf wants power brooming to lift debris and our turf vacuum to remove it, which is a different process to washing concrete.
Is turf cleaning safe for dogs and kids?
The treatment is enzyme and hydrogen peroxide based, and biodegradable rather than bleach or solvent based, which is the whole point given who actually uses these yards. Ask when you book how long to keep pets and children off afterwards, since that depends on conditions on the day.
How do I get monsoon dust out of my turf?
Not with a hose, unfortunately. Dust storms drive fine grit down into the thatch layer where rinsing cannot reach it, and once it is in there it holds moisture and odor against the backing. It needs brooming up out of the pile and then vacuuming up.
Do you clean commercial turf as well as residential?
Yes. Commercial installations tend to see far heavier traffic than a back yard, so they usually need attention more often, but the process is the same. Tell us the square footage and what the space is used for and we can quote it.
